Avid gamers all over the world have been anxiously waiting for the release of the first person action game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. With its prequel being the best-selling first-person action game of all time its anticipation is well deserved. The game was created by the company called Infinity Ward which is an award-winning video game development and creation company. Modern Warfare 2 is their sixth version of the game series, Call of Duty, which is a franchise they started only about six and a half short years ago. Even more recognizable is the fact the Infinity Ward team only consists of slightly less than 100 employees in Encino, California.

The game was released on November 10th, 2009 and made significantly more money in only one day than any movie. Just to put it in perspective the largest opening in movie history was "The Dark Knight," which grossed $158.3 million over its first three days! The game casts you as a member of a special ops unit in pursuit of a Russian rebel who is terrorizing Europe. Your character is casted as an Army Rangers, SAS commandos, and CIA operatives, and must fight your way through Afghanistan, Russia, and Washington.

It sold about 4.7 million copies totaling about $310 million in just North America and the UK. MW2 outsold the previous video game record, held by Grand Theft Auto 4 since April 2008, by about 1.1 million. Shortly after, as of November 27, 2009, the entire Call of Duty series surpassed 55 million unit sales across the globe, equating to $3 billion in retail sales! As of today, March 6, 2010, MW2 has generated more than $1 billion dollars in sales alone, only four months after its release date!

Upon their initial release in 2003, Call of Duty was only available on PC's, however, today, as with most popular games, it is readily available for Microsoft Windows, the PlayStation 3, and the Xbox 360. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Mobilized is available for the Nintendo DS and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare: Reflex which a port of Call of Duty 4 for the Wii. If you're wondering what a port is, it's basically a game that was designed for another gaming system, like a PC then made to work other consoles like an Xbox or PlayStation.

Modern Warfare 2 is so popular they immediately came out with a comic book for it called Modern Warfare 2: Ghost. It's a six-part comic book mini-series with the first issue of the series debuted on November 11, 2009, a day after the release of the game. If you're looking for something to consume some time this spring or summer, you've found your end. This is a very addicting game and a lot of fun to play with your friends whether they're right next to you, or on the other side of the country.
