Star sign compatibility is defined as something which is thought or assumed to be existing with people born under different zodiac signs or so called star signs. It is generally believed that people with certain signs are more compatible with those who belong to a different sign.

At times according to the star sign compatibility tests, matching of these signs can be fruitful when they are same or from a similar group leading to a successful marriage or the like.

Star sign compatibility tests are classified into two modes: these are western star sign compatibility and the next is Chinese star sign compatibility. Under western sign compatibility there is checking of compatibility through birth dates which gives specific zodiacs. Chinese star sign compatibility is a combination of geomancy, astronomy, horoscopes and astrology. Clearly it is believed that the sun, moon, stars all affect the moral conduct of people and their relationships.

There are said to be twelve signs for doing this compatibility test. It is believed that people categorized under any of the twelve signs will show up specific characteristics which are particularly set up for that zodiac sign.

The following are the zodiacs with symbolism:
1. Aries (Mar 21- Apr 19) - cardinal/fire
2. Taurus (Apr 20 - May 20) - fixed/earth
3. Gemini (May 21 - Jun 20) - mutable/air
4. Cancer (Jun 21 - July 22) - cardinal/water
5. Leo (Jul 23 - Aug 22) - fixed/fire
6. Virgo (Aug 23 -Sep 22) - mutable/earth
7. Libra (Sep 23 - Oct 22) - cardinal/air
8. Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) - fixed/water
9. Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) - mutable/fire
10. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19) - cardinal/earth
11. Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18) - fixed/air
12. Pisces (Feb 19 - Mar 20) - mutable/water

But in case of Chinese star compatibility, these are deduced from the elements of nature and their effects on human life. There are five Chinese elements in all: wood dominated by Jupiter, fire dominated by mars, earth dominated by Saturn, metal dominated by Venus and water dominated by Mercury. These elements are also ruled by an animal sign.

These five elements are further classified into positive and negative magnetic poles called ying or yang. All these calculates the Chinese star which are basically classified as Rat, Tiger, Ox, Rabbit, Snake, Dragon, Horse, Monkey, Sheep, Rooster, Boar and Dog. As a rule the animal that reigns in the birth sign, rules the heart of the man.

Sometimes, these star signs along with astrology gives significant utilization for producing a daily, weekly, monthly or yearly horoscope. This is a method of divination. To understand how it will match with the other's interest, one first needs to consider how the elements blend in nature and then think about what each of the elements represents.

Thus, is Aries and Aquarius a good match? Will a man born in the rat year be compatible with a woman born in an ox year? Whichever mode is used, star sign compatibility helps in giving one self confidence for attaining a successful chemistry in his/her life and relationships.
