Women of any age should face up to the reality that at some point in their life they are going to be assaulted. Whether it is a domestic violence assault or an attempted rape in a stairwell coming down from your apartment; it could be out on the streets or in your own backyard, you just don't know when or where. Unfortunately, it will just happen. The best thing you can do is to be prepared to defend yourself.

The best way to do that is with some self-defense items. Self-defense product manufacturers like Mace, Streetwise, Stun Master and Taser International, to name a few, have been manufacturing items geared towards the female market for years. Here are four self-defense items for women ranked by popularity for their personal defense and personal security.

First is the "Perfume Protector" rechargeable 1,000,000 volt stun gun by Streetwise. It has a lifetime warranty and looks exactly like a perfume spray. It has a key chain attachment for easy accessibility. It has dual safety features with the safety switch and activation button. It comes in a vivid red glitter color. It also has a bright LED flashlight.

The second popular item is a "Hottie" pink rechargeable 5,000,000 volt stun gun by Streetwise. It is 3.25 inches tall and 2 inches wide making it one of the smallest stun guns in the marketplace. It is pink which makes it popular with women. It has rechargeable batteries built-in, a super bright LED flashlight and comes with a rubber armor coating that is heavy-duty. It features the popular disable pin.

Next is the taser C2 gold package in pink. Tasers have been shown to be nearly 100% effective and more reliable than a 9 mm handgun in taking down an assailant. Tasers shoot out two electrified barbs up to 15 feet away which makes it a good long-range self-defense product. The gold package includes 2 cartridges, a training cartridge, practice target, a tactical holster, training manual and a lithium power magazine that's good for at least 50 firings. The laser sighting system helps you aim confidently and accurately. You have to pass a background check before the product can be activated.

And the fourth popular self-defense item that appeals to women is the pink Mace that shoots a full strength 10% concentration of oleoresin capsicum (OC) up to 25 feet away. It uses replaceable canisters that hold enough OC concentration for seven 25 foot shots. It comes with a water cartridge for practice and batteries for the LED targeting light. A holster is available for an extra charge.

Those are four examples of the most popular self-defense items that are geared towards women for their personal defense and personal security.
