From the Sky News website,

America's home security chief has told Sky News airlines flying to the US must continue to hand over
all passengers' credit card details after July.
That is when a temporary exemption for EU countries, who fear their citizens' privacy is being
infringed, runs out.
The US authorities fear another September 11 attack, this time coming out of Europe and most likely
the UK.

I just phoned the US Embassy in London (tel. (for visa stuff) 09042 450100). He said that we do qualify for the visa waiver program because:

our visit is for less than 90 days, for holiday purposes
our passports are machine readable
the airline we're going with participates with the visa waiver program - I phoned them (tel. 0870 240 0055), 'Zoom' airlines do participate as long as:
we are British Citizens

That's the 'tick'-ay?
