If the United States government was to reinstate a compulsory military draft, there are certain people who would be exempt from having to serve. 3)If you have a mother who is a widow or parents who are ill and dependent on you for financial support, you can get an exemption. If you have a brother, your mother elects which of you will be exempt.

4)If you are an orphan who is responsible for children under 12 years of age, you can get an exemption. Another option in this area is to be a widow or widower with children to support.

5)Encourage your father and a sibling to enlist in the military as a non-commissioned officer, a private or a musician. Only two members of the family are exempt, so you could still be called up for service if you have too many siblings who could make a better case for being the ones not to serve in the military.

6)Enroll in college. Students can receive postponements until the end of the term. Ministry students are except, so that is a good option.

7)Try for conscientious objector status. If you are Amish or a Quaker, you have a better change of making a case for this exemption based on your religious beliefs. However, you may be required to do alternative service work.
