What to do in Turkey
Priene, Miletus and Didyma
Located south of Kusadasi, these three wonders of the world can easily be visited on the same day. Each of these three ancient cities has something special to offer: Priene offers spectacular views on the banks of the River Menderes, the huge theater of Miletus with an amazing state of preservation, or the ruins of what was once the second largest temple in the world (to Apollo) that can be found at Didyma.
In Priene, in addition to the fine views it offers its location on a hill, you can visit the ruins of the ancient temple of Athena, which was founded by Alexander himself. For its part Miletus well as the ruins of the city (which were formerly located on a peninsula) also gives us the opportunity to visit the Mosque of Ilyas Bey (Ilyas Bey Cami), built in 1404 before the Turks took Constantinople, and now abandoned.
Patara
Often the tourists who come to do Patara looking beautiful white sand beach 18 miles long, and leave the place without knowing that right behind them, beyond the dunes that sometimes form the sand, rise was the remains of the ancient city of Patara, birthplace of St. Nicholas (the origin of the legend of Santa Claus). The city has been recently restored, and it is interesting to visit the theater, walk the main street, or discover around Lycian sarcophagi and some remains of a temple dedicated to Athena, for example. But the best he can offer the visitor Patara is a romantic sunset viewed from the ruins.
Arykanda
Most of the sites mentioned so far are a lot of tourists, especially during the summer, but Arykanda, one of the oldest cities of Lycia, is in a place so remote that its beauty remains virtually ignored. These include baths, a basilica, and the Odeon, built in the second century AD, but above all stands the majestic theater, which can be seen from the unparalleled views. Just above the theater is a stadium that has the distinction of having stands on only one side, so that viewers could enjoy the view from its great location.
Back to the south to the coastal town of Finike, we also stand Limyra, another city of Lycia, where apart from his theater and his burial can contemplate the bucolic image of the ruins of a temple bathed by the waters of a fountain that emerges from the mountain.
