Running an outdoor movie night as either a community fun night or a fundraiser is a lot easier than it sounds. Follow these steps to ensure a painless and really fun evening for the entire school.
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
1)Allow the kids to choose the movie. You will probably have to choose from movies that are already out on DVD (unless you know some important people). Create a ballot like the one pictured and hold a vote at lunchtime.
2)Be sure to check with your district or principal about the rules for charging admission or asking for a donation at the door. Usually, if you ask for a $5 donation instead of charging for tickets, about 80 percent of the people will donate the $5.
3)Contact a local outdoor theater company. They will bring a screen (usually inflatable) and take care of the audio and visual components. Our school pays about $2,500 for the evening.
4)Set up tables to sell concessions such as popcorn, drinks, glow sticks-anything fun and appropriate for "the movies."
5)Have the parents bring beach chairs or bean bags to sit in. You'll want to skip the folding chairs; they are just too uncomfortable to endure for the duration of a movie.
6)Check with your most trusted weather source and choose a night when you can bet on having good weather.
7)Start as early as possible, so the kids don't get tired and cranky! If you're a Christian parent, you want your children to learn the importance of serving God and others who are less fortunate. When children get involved in ministry, they participate in activities that teach them to put others' needs before their own. Such activities build compassion, rather than apathy.
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
1)Take your children on overseas mission trips with your church. Have them learn the language of the country they'll be visiting and let them bring some toys and clothing for the people there. Also, educate your children on the poverty that other kids deal with in these countries. Explain how God expects Christians to help those less fortunate with the resources they have.
2)Let your children volunteer with church activities. If your church is holding a clothing drive, for example, your children can participate by going into different neighborhoods to collect donations. If your church hosts a holiday dinner for the homeless, let your children help serve the food.
3)Teach your children to give financially to ministries. Have them use part of their allowance to give to church during the Sunday service.
4)Take your children to visit a nursing home. Have them sit with the patients and play cards or read to them for a few hours. Talk to the nursing home staff about letting your children put on a play or concert if they sing or take drama classes in school.
5)Have your children prepare gift baskets for children in the hospital. Visit the children beforehand and find out what kinds of things they like. If a child enjoys doing crossword puzzles and eating chocolate candy, prepare a basket with puzzle books and some chocolate bars. Be sure to check with the hospital staff and/or the child's parents to make sure they are allowed to have such items. Forster Tuncurry holiday rental NSW
