Plastic surgery is a surgical process characterized by therapeutic or cosmetic reformation of tissue. There are many advantages of plastic surgery and there are many people who need physical surgical correction, like people born with physical deformities, burn and acid attack victims, etc. However, what plastic surgery is far more famous, or rather infamous for is the obsession that has taken young adults by storm and which, in the bargain, has escalated vanity to new heights. There are many plastic surgery risks that people need to keep in mind if they wish to opt for this procedure, especially on a voluntary basis, to enhance their existing features.

Risks Associated With Any Surgery
There are certain risks that are associated almost any surgery. These risks include general anesthesia side effects, like temporary fluctuations in heart rhythm, development of blood clots, changes in body temperature (hyperthermia or hypothermia), airway obstruction, damage to nerves or airway, paralysis on a temporary basis, etc. Aspiration is also a possible risk that can lead to various lung infections. Post surgical chances of infection, changes in blood pressure, blood loss, etc. always exist.
Risks Associated With Plastic Surgery
The overwhelming plastic surgery risks statistics are enough to make a person think twice before going under the knife. The risk factor in such surgeries tends to differ from person to person, and various other factors including the procedure of plastic surgery that is opted for comes into play. A certain group of people is much more prone to such cosmetic surgery risks, and diabetics or heavy smokers are the best examples of the same. Given below are the details of some of the most common plastic surgery risks and dangers.
Necrosis
A major complication associated with plastic surgery, necrosis is characterized by death of tissues of the operated region due to insufficient supply to oxygen. Those who smoke are relatively more vulnerable to this conditions as constriction of blood vessels tends to restrict the supply of oxygen to the operated region. While people opting for normal cosmetic surgeries seldom face this problem, those who opt for surgeries involving face lifts or tummy tucks are more vulnerable to it.
Scarring
Yet another common risk when it comes to the is that of scarring. This depends on the wound healing capability of the persons body. It occurs as a result of thickening of skin edge and granular tissue formation which occurs in the process of healing. In most of the cases, the surgeons try to hide scarring in places wherein it can't be seen. For instance, scarring during a tummy tuck operation is hidden beneath the swing wear line.
Asymmetry
One of the most common risk associated with plastic surgery is that of asymmetry. In case of a surgery that is performed for correction of a deviated nasal septum, there are chances that either due to a flaw during the evaluation or due to something going wrong in the surgery, the person may land up with central facial asymmetry. At times, even during healing, the person's skin may end up causing facial asymmetry. While mild asymmetry is normal when you opt for such surgery, the person may have to opt for a second surgery in case of moderate or severe asymmetry.
Other than these plastic surgery complications, a person opting for such surgical process is also vulnerable to general risks such as bleeding, nerve damage, seroma, blood clotting etc. As we mentioned earlier, these are, of course, dependent on many factors and not all of them will be seen at the same time. However, if people will continue to turn a blind eye to the various documented plastic surgery risks, and prefer to simply be overly optimistic about the results, then the decision and the consequences to bear are all theirs and no-one else's.
