Many students migrate to New Zealand (NZ) every year to study the English language and immerse themselves in 'kiwi' culture. However, being away from home for many can be unsettling so here we give a brief introduction of things to do to get yourself not only settled into your English school but into Christchurch, New Zealand too.

Christchurch (Chch) has an approximate population of 350,000 people and is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand. A safe and welcoming city for all international students it offers plenty of opportunities to experience local culture, shopping, cuisine, entertainment and night-life. Commonly known as 'The Garden City', Christchurch is well known for its famous parks and gardens, which provide the perfect place to get in some quality quiet study time! Not only that but Christchurch's situation on the east coast of New Zealand allows you to enjoy some great scenery every day with everything from cityscapes and beaches through to parks and mountains. Just knowing that you have plenty of variety in which to spend time outside of your flat or boarding accommodation to yourself can be a huge relief.

Getting around Christchurch is made easy with the abundance of buses and taxis available. The roads are well mapped out and cycling or driving are both good options to get around the city. Most suburbs have their own shopping malls and utilities so walking is also just as good a choice. When you arrive at your school see if they have a local map or brochure which you can keep in your bag to refer to in case you are feeling a little lost.

A Christchurch English school which is well established and has been looking after many others in the same position as you for years can make a big difference to your study and attitude. You willhave peace of mind that you have a strong support network and therefore will most likely have a better experience being so far away from home. Enrolling at an English school that has a good number of students allows plenty of opportunity to not only practise your language skills but to also make friends who are in the same or similar position to you. This will make you feel as though you have someone to turn to when you are feeling homesick and also that you can study with - which may be of great advantage to you.

Also try and find an English school that is approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA), because this will allow you to gain a qualification once you pass your study requirements and therefore have a real sense of achievement, and to remember that all that time away from home is for a good reason! 英会話ならNOVAの英会話スクール
