DVD is an optical disc storage media format, invented & developed by Philips, Sony, Toshiba, & Panasonic in 1995. DVDs offer higher storage ability than Compact Discs while having the same dimensions.

Factoids: The very first DVD players were introduced in Japan in November 1996. DVD players were first made available in the United States in March 1997. It has taken DVD players fewer than half the time it took VCRs to reach important mass with U.S. consumers. Price drops for DVD players in 1999-2000 kick-began sales. By 2002, China had turn into the largest producer of DVD players, making 30 million players - over 70% of the world output.

So now that you are trusting unique events to DVD - & perhaps even transferring cherished old VHS videos onto shiny new DVDs - could you really make certain they are safely preserved for future generations to enjoy?
