Free Fast Food CouponsLast week I participated in the Take Out Frenzy. It involved attending nine fast food restaurants in a day and consuming as numerous calories when i could. During your day I ate at Burger King, Jack within the Box, KFC, McDonalds, Wendy's, Arby's, Taco Bell, Sonic, and Dairy Queen. I consumed over 5,500 calories, which comes down to greater than twice the recommended daily caloric intake to have an average man. I didn't feel totally good appropriate but still felt pretty lethargic another day. Shockingly, there are many people inside the nation who eat more calories then I did so everyday.

Given that a lot of junk food choices are unhealthy ones, it led me to question whether take out companies are being ethical in offering these products they do. The standard response from firms that sell goods that harm their consumers is that this product is legal. However, ethical claims change from claims with what is legal or illegal. For example, adultery, lying, and cheating are generally considered to be unethical activities, yet these are not contrary to the law. Likewise, in some states, it used to become illegal to marry someone of an different race, yet few would check this out being an unethical act. Hence the claim that take out companies make they are simply just offering a legitimate product for the public does not mean that they can are acting ethically.

That being said, I really do not believe that junk food companies are immoral just because they certainly not act in a paternalistic fashion towards their customers. Consumers hold the choice to prevent these products, consume them in moderation, or eat them everyday. The true secret in my experience is the actual fact that each company provides adequate disclosure regarding its products to ensure that consumers could make reasoned decisions. Although it had not been always an easy task to find, each of the nine fast food restaurants I attended have websites that disclose nutritional details about their food items. As well, two in the companies, Burger King and Wendy's, actually had large, nutritional charts readily visible of their restaurants. Given that consumers have access to this information, I truly do not feel that there is anything morally wrong with these companies selling fast food.

One might take issue while using fact that numerous of the companies market a few to children. Mascots like Ronald McDonald, the Burger King, and Jack from Jack inside Box are essentially modified cartoon characters that hock junk food to kids. As well, most of those restaurants also promote meals especially created for children that include toys. While these actions are arguably questionable, parents ultimately control whether and what children eat at these restaurants. They needs to be capable of assess these products regardless from the advertising hype and act accordingly.
